Portugal has become the first country in the world to be granted the title, identifying its efforts to endorse tourism accessibility. Making Portugal an accessible country for all has been the main concern taken on by the government of the country. It introduced the All for All Programme in 2016. It was set to empower the sector, helping to create and promote accessible itineraries throughout the country to make it an inclusive destination for all travelers.

In Europe, there is a market of 90 million travelers with specific mobility needs. The award highlights the leadership of Portugal in convenience for all travelers. As part of the programme it executed, different initiatives including accessible roadmaps were made available at Visit Portugal and good practice guides for the tourism. A specific financing line was introduced to support accessibility projects in tourism, and 116 projects have received support to date.

In addition to an “Accessible Beach” Programme, Portugal has launched the “Festivals + Accessible” programme as well. It aims to differentiate events that present accessibility conditions for people with specific needs, including pregnant women, seniors, wheelchair users and visually impaired people.

Also, a web search portal and the app, Tur4All, were launched. They provide information on hotels, restaurants and cultural offer for people with specific mobility needs in Portugal and Spain.
