Portugal will make special arrangements for UK tourist after the UK leaves the European Union amid deepening uncertainty about Brexit.

British passport holders will be third-country national and will not be privileged to use the fast-track queues for the European Union and EEA citizens after the UK leaves the EU.

Turismo de Portugal’s London office made an announcement that following the uncertainty and the threat of a no-deal Brexit, the Portuguese government made a contingency plan  to avoid as far as possible the disruption for British travellers to their country.

There will be dedicated passport control lanes for flights arriving from the UK as per the Portuguese authorities.

After 29 March the European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) held by the British traveler will be ceased and the reciprocal health-care agreements after Brexit lacked clarity.

But emergency medical treatment through the Portuguese health service will still be available to the UK visitors. Further, there will also be simplified requirements for UK nationals’ pets.

There was a  possibility of recognizing the British driving licenses in Portugal.

UK motorists were advised to obtain one or more International Driving Permits (IDPs) in the event of no-deal Brexit. In the occasion of Portugal abolishing  the requirement unilaterally will be benefiting British travellers renting cars in the country. However, those planning a  drive to Portugal will require a 1949 version IDP Spain and a 1968 version if they wished to drive through France.
