More than 33 countries in 2015 have reportedly alerted the spread of the Zika virus since the start of 2015. The virus is said the bring birth deformity particularly harming the brain development of a new born child.
The infection is very active in the Caribbean, Barbados, Curacao, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St Martin and the US Virgin Islands.
Pregnant women in the UK are being given an option to switch or postpone their travel plans only if they have booked in one of the affected countries. But cancelling trips for neighboring locations would obviously mean heavy penalty, but mothers to be are weary about taking risk.
Many are swapping tickets with other family members as they do not wish to risk travelling in such conditions. But many airlines including the BA have refused. The British Airways however maintains that they would keep the situation under review on a day-by-day basis.
Another business that is not willing to make refunds are tour operators. However hotels and Virgin Atlantic airlines are offering full refund to pregnant visitors. The Zika virus is spreading in the US. Florida has spotted some cases of the virus and there are clear chances of contamination.
