Conventions Malta and the Institute of Tourism Studies teamed up so as to showcase the upcoming local talent and skills at IBTM World, which is an important MICE fair which takes place on an annual basis in Barcelona. Due to the success of this collaboration, Conventions Malta decided to entrust the ITS students with the catering and hospitality of the Malta stand at IMEX, which took place in Frankfurt earlier this year.
The students chosen for these fair experiences, follow either the Diploma in Food & Beverage Service or the Higher National Diploma in Culinary Arts, both of which are offered at ITS. For each of the fairs, four students participated; two of these carried out food preparation duties, while the other two students were responsible for serving food and beverages.
During the fairs, the students made use of Maltese ingredients to prepare some of the well known and tasty Maltese delicacies, which were accompanied by traditional local beverages.
The MTA CEO, Mr Paul Bugeja said “These exhibitions served as an excellent opportunity for the ITS students to experience and meet expectations of the high-end clients from the MICE industry in an environment which is hectic and diverse. Work experience such as this shall surely leave a positive impact on the service level which is then offered on the Maltese Islands”. Mr Bugeja concluded by thanking the students for their hard work and dedication in carrying out hospitality duties on the Malta stand, as well as the staff members at ITS for their continuous collaboration.
The certificates of appreciation were presented to: Jan Magro, Jeanise Galea, Jessica Mizzi, Kyle Farrugia, Simon Bugeja, Steven Pisani, Susan Abela and Valentina Micallef.
