A three-day campaign organized by the Oman Ministry of Tourism (MoT), in association with leading hospitality players in the Sultanate to promote domestic summer tourism, created an unprecedented response from nationals as well as residents.
The tourism promotion drive at the Muscat City Centre last weekend was a huge success with as many as 38 properties and service providers from across the Sultanate participating and offering good deals for nationals and residents.
The campaign was inaugurated by Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Mehrzi, minister of tourism, in the presence of Maitha al Mahrouqi, undersecretary at the ministry.
According to an official at the ministry, the campaign was a first-of-its-kind initiative by the ministry in co-operation with Oman’s major tourism enterprises to promote domestic summer tourism in the Sultanate.
“We offered them the space, and the necessary marketing support (for the event). The specialty is that only Omani citizens and residents were eligible for the special packages and discounts,” he said.
Tourism properties and service providers that participated in the campaign included five, four and three-star hotels, resorts and hotel apartments, as well as the flagship national carrier Oman Air and Oman Sail.
Summer is a lean period for hotels in the Sultanate, and it has become a routine affair for them to offer special summer and Ramadan rates.
