Protest in ThailandThe continued demonstration in many areas of Thailand to protest against the anti-amnesty bill despite government move to withdraw it recently, has caused concerns in the business community.

Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand expressed its
concerns over the current political conflict, which is expected to be prolonged and affect the overall economy, business, trade, investment confidence and, tourism industry.

In a statement, it said it was concerned especially regarding the tourism
sector as the high season for the sector is coming, which is an important and significant factor in mobilising the country’s economic growth.

It said the country was already facing a slowing economy, with the third
quarter export increasing only 0.05 per cent, and expected to grow just one per cent for the year.

“Everyone should think about the effects of the political conflict on the
country’s economy,” it added.

It pleads for minimal confrontation and not to use violence which could damage the economy and image of the nation.
