Puri tourism starts showing signs of normalcy after Cyclone Fani devastation

After the devastating effects of Cyclone Fani, tourism in temple town of Puri starts showing signs of coming back to normal. The Hotel Association of Puri (HAP) said that almost 50% of Puri’s hotels have started restoring their services.

 

Cyclone Fani had given a harsh blow to the tourism industry of Puri a month ago on May 3. Number of hotels in Puri suffered severe damages with the cyclone hitting bad. Many sea-facing hotels, lodges and guest houses were destroyed.

 

However, now almost 50% hotels in Puri are functional. Hotels have started to see some tourist footfall. The occupancy rates are picking up slowly. Power supply has been restored in most hotels. However, internet and mobile connectivity is still poor. The state tourism minister has said that steps are being take to revive the tourism sector.
