Pyeongchang Olympics to boost Korean tourism

pyeongThe 2018 Winter Olympics is expected to bring in thousands of tourists to the mountainous resort town of Pyeongchang. The quadrennial sports events will start in February.



Work has already started crews are renovating buildings and roads, there are signs to welcome guests and installation of menus in several languages.


The official however mentioned that there will be lesser number of Chinese visitors than expected.


After South Korea had installed the U. S THAAD Anti-Missile Defense system due to the rising tensions with North Korea there has been a significant drop of 60 percent in Chinese tourists last year.


It was reported that some of the Olympic venues were located 50 miles away from North Korea.


Kim Dong-yeon, the Finance Minister said during a meeting in Seoul that Winter Olympics will giveĀ  afresh momentum to the local tourism industry and the Winter Olympics is just 100 days away.



Tourism being an important industry creates more jobs than others.This will be the first Winter Olympic Games hosted by South Korea. The country had earlier struggled for severalĀ  months due to security and political issues.
