The announcement was made at a ceremony where Qatar Airways distinguished Cotur Tours as its main agent in Mozambique, according to a report in Monday’s issue of the Maputo daily, Noticias.
Cotur Director Noor Momade expressed his delight and told Noticias that their award by Qatar Airways was of great importance since this is generally regarded as one of the best airlines in the world, and this is the first time it has awarded prizes since beginning operations in Maputo.
The current twice weekly Qatar Airways flights between Maputo and Doha stop at Johannesburg in both directions.
The decision to introduce non-stop flights between the two cities reflects confidence that there is enough traffic to make the route profitable, without stopping in Johannesburg to pick up more passengers. Cutting out the stop in Johannesburg will also reduce travel time by two hours.
The Maputo-Doha route will use the most modern large aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
