Qatar Airways demonstrated its ongoing support for and solidarity with the State of Qatar by installing a vast patriotic canvas displaying the iconic image of the country’s Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, along with the viral tagline, ‘Tamim Al Majd’ (Tamim the glorious).
The canvas signing event, held on Thursday 13 July in front of Qatar Airways’ corporate headquarters, was inaugurated by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, who proudly was first to sign the display, as a gesture of solidarity between the national airline and its thriving home and hub, Doha, Qatar. Shortly after, Qatar Airways staff members present at the event were invited to sign the ‘Tamim Al Majd’ canvas to show their support. In the coming days it is expected that the display will be visited and signed by thousands of Qatar Airways’ employees, who have been tremendously supportive since the onset of the illegal blockade against the State of Qatar.
The signing event was attended by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker and Hamad International Airport Chief Operating Officer Eng. Badr Al Meer, who were joined by a delegation of senior Qatar Airways management. The event also attracted some of Qatar’s biggest social media influencers, as well as famous Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said: “This signing event marks a very proud moment for us here at Qatar Airways, as we celebrate our unity in the midst of this unprecedented blockade against my country. Today, we show our commitment to the State of Qatar by displaying the renowned image of our leader, the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. I am truly glad to see so many of our employees, from Qatar as well as many other nations all across the world, here to enthusuiastically show their support.
“The State of Qatar will continue to strive, expand, and excel in all areas, and we as an airline will also follow the same path, because we don’t believe in boundaries, we believe in bringing people together. We will continue to fly the skies, and we will continue to go places together.”
Qatar Airways’ newest ambassador Fahad Al Qubaisi said: “I’m thrilled to be here for this important event, where we have gathered to show our unity as a nation in the midst of this blockade. Such a significant show of support from Qatar Airways employees is truly inspiring to see.”
This memorable occasion comes at a time when Qatar Airways and the State of Qatar are constructively working side by side to enable the national carrier to continue to provide the same level of world-class service it always has, despite the illegally-imposed blockade.
In a defiant response to the current flight bans, the airline’s recently-launched television and social media commercial titled ‘No Borders, Only Horizons’, has been viewed by more than 54 million viewers worldwide, and was ranked as the top viral video during the last week of June.
The national carrier has confirmed its continued robust expansion plans with a host of exciting new destinations planned for the remainder of this year and 2018, including Canberra, Australia; Chiang Mai, Thailand; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; San Francisco, U.S.; and Santiago, Chile, to name a few. In Eastern Europe alone there will be new services to Skopje, Republic of Macedonia and Prague, Czech Republic commencing this summer.
Qatar Airways has received a number of accolades this year, including Airline of the Year by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards, which was held at the Paris Air Show. This is the fourth time that Qatar Airways has been given this global recognition as the world’s best airline. In addition to being voted Best Airline by travellers from around the world, Qatar’s national carrier also won a raft of other major awards at the ceremony, including Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class and World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge.
