Next year February, Qatar Airways will allow its flights to fly between Doha and Canberra as confirmed by Ian Hill, Visit Canberra executive director. To quote Hill, ‘’ they’re working through details and schedules; there’s a lot of logistics that goes into new routes. They’ll be looking at an extended sales period, which is typically six months on international services. I think we can expect to see more details emerge in the coming months in terms of the number of flights a week and the scheduling of those flights.’’
Last year, Hamad International Airport in Doha welcomed 37.2 million passengers, making it nearly as busy as Sydney, with further development in the owing. Many European destinations are connected to Doha like Paris, Milan, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, London and Edinburgh. For Canberra international tourism was recognized with major growth possibility in the last few years and introduction of international flights was an excellent step to enhance Canberra’s tourism industry to the T!
To quote Hill, ‘’we’ve had some record growth in domestic overnight visitors, nearly 2.35 million coming to the ACT in the last 12 months, and about 205,000 international visitors, which is also a record.’’
