On Thursday Qatar was able to achieve yet another milestone in the sphere of cruise tourism as it embraced over 4,000 tourists on board the mega cruise ship MSC Splendida according to the Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar).
Doha Port had recorded the largest number of cruise travellers arrival per ship till date through MSC Splendida with over 3,700 passengers and 1,314 crew members on board in yet another important landmark for cruise tourism in Qatar, as per Mwani Qatar.
This mega cruise vessel had made its maiden voyage to the nation on 20th December, 2017 that was welcomed by a delegation from the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA)\, Mwani Qatar, Hamad International Airport and the Ministry of Interior’s Immigration Department.
QTA said that MSC Splendida that is the second member of the MSC Cruises family to visit Doha is expected to make four more calls throughout the cruise season of 2017 to 2018, on 25th January, 15th February, 8th March and 29th March.
MSC Splendida is one of the most modern ships of MSC Cruises.
It measures about 333 metres in length and it is 66 metres in height that is equivalent to three football fields and possesses 13 passenger decks.
In fact it is considered the largest ship to enter Doha Port.
German mega ship Mein Schiff 5 was the first mega cruise ship to dock on 22nd November at Doha Port this season. It is about 293 metres in length and is 15 decks high with a capacity of about 4,000 passengers and crew members.
MSC Splendida and Mein Schiff 5 are among the new cruise ships making their maiden voyages to Qatar.
Seabourn Encore had also entered the Doha Port in November last year with 600 passengers on board. It is the first of 21 cruise ships expected throughout the season.
As per the QTA, the number of cruise tourists to the country this 2017 to 2018 is expected to cross the 47,000 record in the 2016 to 2017 season owing to the arrival of mega ships.
In fact QTA is currently in talks with some of the major European cruise liners to share the latest development in the tourism industry of Qatar and this includes the ongoing development of Doha Port into a permanent cruise terminal and tourist hub.
