Qatar’s visa exemption decision hailed by Oman’s travel agents

download (6)Travel agents and citizens in Oman have welcomed the decision of Qatar to scrap visa for citizens of 80 countries, with immediate effect.


Bernama News quoted Riyaz Kuttery, chief operating officer of Mezoon Travels as saying, “It is indeed a welcome move and this will definitely boost visitors to Qatar from Oman as well. People in Oman will have a new place to visit.


There are people who have friends and family in Qatar. The move will encourage them to join their loved ones for a quick break or weekend.”


As per the decision, nationals of 33 countries can now visit Qatar for up to 90 days (multiple-entry) during a visa waiver period that is valid for 180 days and the other 47 states listed for up to 30 days (renewable for 30 days more). The UK, US, Canada, India, South Africa, Seychelles, Australia and New Zealand are among those countries.


Citizens of those countries wishing to visit Qatar will not need to apply or pay for a visa; instead, a multi-entry waiver will be issued free-of-charge at the port of entry.


Astrin D’Silva, marketing and corporate communications director at Travel Point, said, “The visa waiver announcement by Qatar is a gate opener to many avenues of tourism, both for inbound and outbound market of Oman. For the residents of Oman, this will be a new destination for weekend holidays, owing to the array of attractions that Qatar has to offer, from luxury hotels to theme parks, water parks, family entertainment destinations, island escapades, interesting landmarks, antique souqs, retail shopping options and more.


“For the inbound sector, globally Oman and Qatar can now be seen as twin destinations for holidays .Tour operators can look at creating extension packages, which will further boost the tourism economy of both countries. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the pipeline, I am sure this will serve as a great opportunity.”
