Escape rooms are the new U.S. gaming trend. Close to 1,4000 escape rooms are housed in 277 cities and 53 countries, an escape room-themed major motion picture is on the horizon, and MarketWatch reports that it is an “unbelievably lucrative business”. However, the key to success is originality.
In South Florida, QQuest Escape Rooms is currently ranked #1 on Yelp for Broward County Escape Rooms, #3 of 99 Fun & Games in Broward County on Trip Advisor, and #1 Fun and Attractions in Pompano Beach on Trip Advisor.
“Unlike many other escape room games, ours aren’t franchised which means all of our rooms are unique puzzles that have never been seen before,” says Greg Kormendi, founder of QQuest Escape Games in Pompano Beach and Think Escape Rooms, in Fort Lauderdale. “Each puzzle we put together is built from scratch. We think through and mastermind everything from the gameplay, to the team strategy, and overall experience.”
Originally from Hungary, the country largely credited for propelling escape rooms into a worldwide entertainment attraction, Kormendi is the son of a Hungarian garage inventor. He spent his childhood tinkering alongside his father and making elaborate traps to catch his friends. QQuest and Think Escape Games are the direct results of Kormendi’s passion for masterminding puzzles.
“We host corporate teams, birthday parties, marriage proposals, bachelor and bachelorette parties and groups of families and friends who are looking to bond and work together to solve the puzzle and have fun doing it,’ said Kormendi.
