Quake hits Indonesia; tsunami ruled out

JAPANQUAKE_26_10_2013A strong temblor struck off the coast of eastern Indonesia. However, officials say there is no threat of a tsunami.

 

The US Geological Survey reported the quake hit Wednesday afternoon 106 kilometres southeast of Amahai, a town on Seram, the biggest island in Maluku province measured 6.9 on the Richter Scale. It said the quake was centred in the Banda Sea at a depth of 33.9 kilometres.

 

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami.
