Quebec has actually acquired this 325 km railway line in the year 2015.
This happened after the declining railway revenues compelled the Gaspé Railway (SFG) into receivership. Via Rail had suspended the Montreal- Gaspé passenger services east of Matapédia during August 2013 on account of poor condition of infrastructure.
The work on refurbishing this railway line is expected to commence within the following few months.
And, it would be focusing on the Matapédia-Caplan section. The Quebec government states that it is striving for the swift revival of the Caplan-Port Daniel Gascons stretch and studies would be conducted for the repairing of the 16 structures based on Port Daniel- Gaspé section.
Mr. Philippe Couillard asserted that the primary objective of the project is to restore the quality of the passenger services.
But then, he admitted that this might take a few years to be accomplished completely.
