The Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon, today congratulated the RACT on its purchase of Federal Group’s regional tourism businesses.
“This shows confidence in both the Tasmanian economy and the Tasmanian tourism industry.
“This a great investment in regional Tasmania with RACT Board acquiring Freycinet Lodge, Cradle Mountain Chateau, Strahan Village, and Gordon River Cruises,” he said.
Mr Bacon said that this comes on top of the recent acquisition by the RACT in partnership with the RACV to purchase the Grand Mercure Hobart Central Apartments.
“This investment by the RACT provides new opportunities to generate revenue into these businesses through marketing to around 7 million auto club members across Australia.
“RACT is a very well-known and trusted organisation with enormous reach and potential to promote Tasmania.
“The Government is also very pleased to see the properties remain with a Tasmanian organisation with a proven and genuine commitment to the state,” he said.
Mr Bacon said that this is a great sign of business confidence in the future of the state’s tourism sector, and the direction this industry is taking.
“Tourism Tasmania has already been meeting with the RACT to discuss potential joint marketing activities interstate.
“Tasmanian tourism has been going from strength to strength over the past twelve months, and the Government expects these positive results to continue in years ahead,” he said.
Mr Bacon said that we have amongst the best tourism operators in Australia and as a result Tasmania is riding the crest of a tourism wave right now.
“More visitors are coming to Tasmania than ever before and business confidence for tourism operators is sitting at an all-time high.
“The Government is working with the tourism industry to continue to grow tourism in Tasmania,” he said.
