Charles Bombardier, a Montreal-based innovator has come up with his vision of Solar Express, a futuristic train concept that would be designed to transport passengers and goods between space stations and celestial bodies.
The vehicle would utilize the gravitational force to sling around moons and planets, and would be capable of ferrying humans to Mars in just 37 hours.
Bombardier has collaborated with Olivier Peraldi to design this unique concept of radical train. This train would be in constant motion, resembling a ski lift and would have smaller vehicles that would latch on it all along the way.
This train would include a few cylinders measuring about 50 meters in length, placed end to end. Each capsule of the vehicle would be divided into four cargo bays. A ‘space city’ would rotate around the longitudinal axis and offer artificial gravity in order to enable humans to walk into the space and reside in it while they travel.
The function of every car would be different. Having said that, the rest areas are more likely to be present in the central part of the aircraft, where there is lesser impact of gravity. The central part would possess a zero-gravity area and here, some experiments would be performed. The outer zones that have higher gravity would be used for human activities.
Rocket boosters would be utilized to launch the aircraft that would also use fuel. The speed would reach upto 3,000 km/ s.
Bombardier said that the train has no limits in terms of the distance it can cover. He said that the very first aircraft would ferry travellers and cargo between the moon and earth at an approximate speed of 15 km/s. The trip would be completed in seven hours, he said.
The vehicle has been described as a ‘space train’ that never ever slows down. It would run non-stop and the other smaller vehicles would catch the train as it passed by, according to its creators.
