emergency-landingA London bound Air India Flight from Mumbai made emergency landing as it was turned back mid flight due to a rat being spotted onboard.

The plane was over Iran about six hours of its flight when a passenger spotted the rat. The flight was forced to turn to Mumbai as the rat could not be found.

The plane was delayed by 11 hours. The airline officials said that passenger safety was being kept in mind as rats can cause serious damage to the plane by chewing through wires.

The plane was fumigated and a complete search was made to check for damages. Passengers were later sent to a different plane to complete their journey to London.

In another London bound jet a stray dog ran in the path of the taxiing plane while taking off in a northern Indian city and the plane had to force its emergency breaks to return to the parking bay.

Rats are frequently sighted on Air India flights; there was another incident in a New Delhi Flight last year. The catering supplies on board are the reasons that rats are attracted to planes. An airline official said that this is common throughout the world.
