By comparison, the tourism sector witnessed a double-digit growth in January that is about 13.4%, as per the data released yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INS). As many as 543,500 Romanian tourists had checked into local accommodation units in February that is 8.5% over the same month in the year 2016.
The number of foreign tourists had reached 135,600 that marks an increase of about 4.5% year-on-year.
A majority of the foreign tourists had come from Europe in February, namely about 104,700. In total, Romania recorded about 271,089 foreign tourists in January and February that is a 6.9% rise year-on-year. Most of the tourists came from Germany (29,983) and this was followed by Italy (29,661), Israel (27,423) and the United Kingdom (18,144).
The number of overnight stays in local hotels and guesthouses had risen by 6.4% year-on-year in the initial two months of the year to 2.54 million.
