Claire Akamanzi, CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB) confirmed that plans are in progress to have the park in the capital Kigali. However, she did not disclose when exactly Rwanda should expect to enjoy the Mega Park.
An amusement park also known as theme park assembles entertainment attractions, rides and other events in a location for the enjoyment of large numbers of people. Most of the rides at theme parks include looping rollercoaster rides, bumper cars, and exciting wildlife centred shows to historical attractions for all age groups.
Establishing theme parks is expensive, but also promises good returns on investment.
The 62-year-old Disneyland theme park was constructed at a cost of $17 million then (about $116 million in today’s dollars). If a similar tourism park is brought to Rwanda, this could be the first time Rwandans enjoy a theme park.
Rwanda climbed from 7th to 3rd in the International Congress and Convention Associations’ (ICCA’s) 2016 latest ranking of business tourism in Africa. The ICCA’s 2016 rankings, released this week puts Rwanda as the third highest ranked MICE destination in Africa, after South Africa and Morocco.
According to the UNWTO, Africa’s strong performance in 2014 makes it one of the world’s fastest-growing tourist destinations, second only to Southeast Asia.
