Berlin AirportAt the beginning of April, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair launched three new services from Berlin-Schönefeld. There are now three weekly flights to the Italian city of Pisa, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday. The new service to the Mediterranean island of Malta leaves twice weekly from Schönefeld, on Thursdays and Sundays. The Irish airline’s new service to Zadar in southern Croatia leaves on Mondays and Thursdays. These flights will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which have space for 189 passengers. In September, Ryanair will also be adding a new service to the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. From autumn 2016, the airline will be further increasing its operations in Schönefeld.

Pisa – a former city-state in Tuscany

The most famous landmark in this Tuscan city is the leaning tower. Together with the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Baptistery and the cemetery of Camposanto Monumentale, it forms an iconic ensemble around the Piazza dei Miracolito to the north of the old city centre. Here, tourists can roam the narrow lanes and discover the fascinating past of the city, which was one of the four seafaring republics. Pisa is also the ideal starting point to explore the coast of the Ligurian Sea and Tuscany. The city’s most famous son is the physicist Galileo Galilei.

Malta – a dream holiday destination

Magical little bays, rugged cliffs, magnificent sandy beaches: the island nation, with the three main inhabited islands Malta, Gozo and Comino, is situated 80 kilometres south of Sicily and is a veritable jewel in the Mediterranean. One of the special characteristics of Malta is the contrast between its coastlines, which range from flat, sandy beaches and wide tranquil bays in the east and north to rocky cliffs in the south-west and north. With this geographical diversity, the island has something for all tastes, from sunbathing and swimming to practically every type of water sport, including wind surfing, jet and water skiing, kite surfing, boat trips and some of the most stunning snorkelling and diving areas in the world.

Zadar – a port city with a Mediterranean flair

Zadar and its 3000-year history is the gateway to Dalmatia, with its pebbly beaches and solitary coves, and beautiful islands just off the coast. The old city centre features a wealth of historical buildings, some of which date back to the Roman age. The long rule of the Venetians is still visible in the old city centre with its characteristic Venetian-style architecture.
