In a Ryanair plane thick smoke poured into the cabin causing terror among passengers who screamed and cried.

Just moments after the Boeing 737-800 took off from the Romanian Capital of Bucharest smoke began to flood the packed cabin which climbed thousands of feet into the air.

It was found that a woman was heard crying in panic on board the aircraft and a man was seen grappling with an overhead compartment in an attempt to release an oxygen mask.

It was noted that none of the overhead compartments could open.

The pilot declared an emergency and returned to Otopeni airport  and as per the airline the smoke might have been caused due to de-icing fluid which entered the air conditioning system.

Due to an issue with the first plane the flight was originally scheduled for 6.40 am  but was already delayed.

A replacement plane was arranged where 169 passengers and four crew members could board. It took off about four hours later and returned to the airport after filling with smoke.

There was an arrangement for a third plane but some passengers due to their experience refused to travel with the airline.

A third plane was then prepared, however some passengers reportedly refused to travel with the airline because of their experience.

It has been reported that the  replacement aircraft was de-iced before it set off for London and investigation into the cause of the smoke was going on.
