The region’s largest airport, Newcastle International, has launched its new website to positive passenger feedback.
The site, www.newcastleairport.com, has been fully redeveloped, creating a cleaner, less cluttered online tool which aims to help passengers navigate the site with ease.
With over 3.5 million visits, 1.3 million unique visitors and 30 million page views every year, the number of users logging on to the airport’s site continues to grow. The new website is compatible with smartphones and tablets.
David Laws, Chief Executive of Newcastle International, said: “We’re delighted with the initial feedback on our new website. In its first few days, we’ve received a wealth of comments about the improved navigation, look and feel so we’re delighted. Our site traditionally has always been very popular with customers but we’ve now made it even easier for customers to prepare for their journey, by making sure that car parking, lounge access, security fast track passes, taxis, and other essentials can all be booked very simply across the site.
“We’ve listened to what our customers want and have adapted the site so that it’s fully compatible with smartphones and tablets. Modern users are looking for data across a range of technologies so it’s only right that we made this a priority – and following the launch of the new website we’ve seen that over 40% of visitors are using mobile and tablet devices.
“We wanted to simplify the information so it’s in an easy-to-use format and also wanted to make the website visually appealing by using panoramic photography of the destinations served by our airline partners as well as vibrant images of the North East region. We think it shows a snapshot of some of the fantastic destinations we offer so we’re very pleased with the overall look.”
Up-to-date flight information, the latest news and retail and catering information is also readily available for customers.
The website navigation has been simplified to allow users to explore the site and the amount of text has been reduced. The site was developed by Fivesite, based in Bedford who previously worked on behalf of big brands including Thomson, Weetabix and Fujifilm. Regional design agency Stark Hartley Atkinson were also involved in the design of the new terminal, car parking, and destination maps.
Stewart Webb, Business Development Manager at Fivesite, said: “The team at Newcastle Airport are incredibly passionate about their airport. What was abundantly clear from the very start was the team never stop trying to improve the customer experience.
“Our challenge with the website was to reflect that passion and to ensure the new site was as welcoming as the Airport itself. To that end, we needed to make improvements in the online customer experience. This was achieved by designing the new website from the start to be as simple to use as possible, with clear concise navigation to a wealth of information, whilst at the same time ensuring the website did not become too cluttered.
“In addition the site adapts its content and navigation depending on what device the customer is using, be it a tablet, smart phone, PC or notebook. So now just like the Airport, no matter how you arrive, customers can be sure the online welcome they receive is the best in the UK.”
Dave Laws added: “We’d also like to thank everyone involved in the build and also Northumbria Helicopters, who kindly took our photographer on a ride around the region to get some fantastic shots of the local authority areas served. These photos can be seen on the homepage, as well as in other areas of the site.”
The launch of the website is phase one of the website development. The airport will be making continuous improvements and adding new features as development continues.
