Earlier during this week, the groundbreaking for the new art museum took place. Peter Rodriguez, a Mexican-American artist had first dreamt about this art museum. He is the person who is credited with inaugurating the first museum of San Francisco during the year 1975.
The original museum had been founded by Rodriguez who had given rise to an art collection. Today, this collection includes over 16,000 works of Latino and Mexican artworks dated back to the pre-Columbian and colonial ages. The museum also has several contemporary artworks inspired by Mexican and Latino arts.
San Francisco’s new art museum would cover an area measuring about 5,574 square metres. And, this museum is said to provide shelter to various artforms. These artworks would comprise about 800 pieces of Mexican art that were donated by Nelson Rockfeller’s family. The museum would also possess different kinds of artworks that are donated by Miguel Covarrubias, a painter and Diego Rivera who is a Mexican muralist.
This new museum of San Francisco is scheduled to open in the year 2019, during spring season.
