Santos Tour Down Under split feed a win for international viewers

Santos Tour DownSouth Australia will be shown off more than ever before to international and interstate viewers watching today’s Santos Tour Down Under action – thanks to a split broadcast feed.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said in this year’s State Budget $35 million was set aside to promote South Australia nationally and internationally – with $6 million specifically for the Santos Tour Down Under.

“For the first time ever, the broadcast is now split into a clean international feed and a separate local feed which means viewers have greater clarity and won’t miss a single part of our stunning regions,” Mr Bignell said.

“The domestic program will feature more content and segments to ensure viewers are up close and personal with the race and new data and statistics.

“There will also be travel pieces on Adelaide and South Australia’s regions which will be broadcast all over the world.

“Today viewers will be able to watch cyclists take on 132 kilometres of picturesque roads from Unley to Stirling for Staging Connections Stage 2. The route from the city to Adelaide Hills is always a crowd favourite and an important establishing stage for the 140 Tour competitors.

“Starting in Unley, Staging Connections Stage 2 of the Santos Tour Down Under always draws a big crowd.

“It is particularly popular among fans who have followed the People’s Choice Classic and Hostworks Stage 1 as the front runners start to be identified.

“This year the peloton will pass through the Adelaide Hills’ town of Stirling five times before the final sprint to the finish, which is perfect for spectators.

Managing Director of the Nine Network in South Australia Sean O’Brien said it was the network’s fifth year broadcasting the event.

“We know how brilliant the Santos Tour Down Under is,” he said.

“We bring viewers 29 hours of coverage across Nine and Gem, live streaming online and editorial across our news and social media platforms.

“Viewers will experience more engaging content during the broadcast and our state will be showcased to more of the country than ever before.”
