It has been noticed that Sarawak received fewer Asian tourists in comparison to Western counterparts. Lack of marketing efforts and inadequate focus has made this place low in popularity in countries like Honk Kong and China.
To quote Wilson Chiam, managing director of Brighton Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd, ‘’ We are all saddened by the news of Hong Kong-Kuching flight suspension by Hong Kong Airlines earlier this year. It is a brutal truth, but we cannot deny it nor give up. I can say the tourism board could be focusing on the wrong direction. Western travelers are the least of our worries because almost every nature and adventure package we are promoting, are able to attract many of them who are willing to spend time and money to explore Sarawak.’’
Wilson said that travelers from west are adventurous and fond of nature and Sarawak is well-known for its national parks. Western counterparts are the independent backpackers who love to discover every natural wonders of Sarawak completely.
Chiam has done many inbound trips for travelers visiting from countries like New Zealand, USA, Australia and Europe. Taiwanese travelers have been identified as more nature-loving and adventurous than tourists from other Asian countries.
