The Saskatchewan Science Centre has bagged the title of the world’s most unique public bathrooms.
The science centre was among six destinations felicitated with an International Toilet Tourism Award, judged by Australian website MyTravelResearch.com.
The centre got the Best Design award due to its newly refurbished second-floor restroom, which is covered in floor-to-ceiling images from Canadian forests photographed by Todd Mintz, a world-renowned nature photographer from the Queen City. One can also get to listen birdsongs and other woodland sounds.
Of the Regina bathroom, the judges said: “The loo is a fully immersive experience by vision and sound. The toilets inside the science centre are like stepping into another world where you can do your business amid the sights and sounds of nature — without having to worry about bears.”
Other winners in the category included The Bowl Plaza in Lucas, Kan., (a public restroom shaped like a giant toilet bowl), a railway station turned public bathroom in South Australia and a James Bond themed washroom in Murren, Switzerland, where the movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was filmed. The Switzerland entry bagged the best overall toilet based on its theme, which includes Bond girl Diana Rigg appearing in the mirror and signs advising that men “Shake, not stir.”
