As tourism becomes a major driver of the economy of Saudi Arabia with the cultural- business meets, MICE and the leisure trips, with its huge employment-generating potential, Saudi Arabia has launched six major initiatives to kindle the travel and tourism industry.
The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) is now taking some best initiatives in reviewing the strategies to make Saudi Arabia as an ideal tourism destination within 2030 and also targeted to achieve the goals of the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020.
Al-Nashmi, the official Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) has pointed out that SR9.93 billion ($2.64 billion) has been allocated for the 6 projects in the 2017 national budget. The six initiatives are aimed to stream the travel and tourism sector of the place.
Tourism Board of Saudi Arabia will also be highlighted the religious tourism, including Haj and Umrah, during the festive times with affordable and low-cost budget accommodation and flight service, while this country is also targeting to take care of the heritage and culture and the promotion of its age-old culture through tourism. A total of 79 projects for travel and tourism industry will be executed under this programme.
The Long Live Saudi Arabia Program is another proposal with an aim to develop the major business cities of Arabia, while the development of Okaz city in Taif is yet another. There are other major initiatives like the “Kingdom as a Muslim destination initiative,” “the development of integrated tourism destinations,” and “the Kafalah program initiative” to invest the commercial concern for tourism projects.
Saudi Arabia is visited by the people of many parts of the world especially from India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran and Iraq during Haj time. But the people of UK and USA are visited at any time of the year for the purpose of business tourism. There are about 18 million people visited Saudi Arab in 2016, most of them came for pilgrimage. Hence, Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) plans to promote its travel and tourism sector to foreign and domestic tourists. Saudi Arabia has a large amount of attractive archaeological sites, beaches, monuments, and a range of other holiday destinations. Now, Saudi Arabia is hoping to promote it as the biggest players in global tourism.
The tourism in Saudi Arabia is expected to generate around 1.2 million jobs for Saudis in the period until 2030. This sector has been marked by the Government of Saudi Arabia as a key driver for growth in the Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy. The travel and tourism is are the second-largest sector in the country. Now the tourism sector employs about 900,000 Saudis.
