2021 marks the beginning of the Year of the Ox and Anantara Chiang Mai Resort is offering an authentic feast for family and friends to celebrate Chinese New Year by the picturesque banks of the Ping River.

As with most holidays, the food traditionally eaten during Chinese New Year holds symbolic meanings and Anantara Chiang Mai’s menu has been carefully crafted by the resort’s resident Chinese Chef Ping Liu offering all the trimmings to wish guests good luck in the coming New Lunar Year.

Hailing from Emeishan City, in China’s Sichuan Province Chef Ping Liu has been cooking his authentic cuisine in some of China’s finest hotels and restaurants for over 20 years and he has crafted a very special menu with Sichuan, Cantonese and traditional Chinese favourites.

Chef Ping Liu’s menu consists of old family recipes from his hometown including Benben Chicken, Szechuan Sea Bass Soup and Sichuan Stir Fried Abalone. Guest can also feast on Chinese Roast Duck, Spicy Seafood Hot Pot, Stewed Birds Nest with Yangzhi Nectar, Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs and Lobster Cakes.

No Chinese New Year dinner is complete without steamed dumplings expertly made to look like the ingot, the gold and silver pieces used as money in ancient times symbolising wealth. For desert Chef Ping Liu’s Eight Precious Puddings consisting of dried fruit and sticky rice symbolizes a sweet life for 2021. The meal is served with fine Chinese tea and a dramatic show will also be beamed live from China.
