Scandic launches world’s first online hotel check-out service for smartphones

ScandicScandic is about to become the world’s first hotel chain offering an online check-out service at all its hotels. The hotel chain has recently developed a new check-out system that is now being launched at all Scandic hotels in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

 

With only a few touches on a smartphone or pc, hotel guests staying at any Scandic hotel in Scandinavia will in future be able to pay for the room, the minibar or restaurant bill whenever best suitable. Scandic expects the highly accustomed Nordic mobile users to adapt to its new service rapidly as it makes checking out in the morning an easy task and will provide its busy guests with more time for other purposes.

 

All that is needed for the online check-out via the mobile is the mobile number of the guest or an e-mail address registered at the hotel on arrival. The evening before check-out the guest will receive a text message and can check the invoice, add items from, the minibar, update contact details and pay for the stay. The guests will receive their receipt for their stay by e-mail and will only have to leave their key card at the reception desk on departure.

 

– It feels really nice to be able to offer our guests an online check-out service, says Jens Mathiesen, CEO of Scandic Denmark. Especially the check out is often perceived as the tedious part of a hotel stay and associated with waiting time and stressful mornings. Now we’re offering a clever shortcut which hopefully will make our guest’s start of the day a bit better. The service increases flexibility and we’re convinced that quite a number of our guests will prefer checking out already in the evening before departure in order to gain more time for a proper breakfast, etc, he continues.

 

 More digital services in the pipepline

The hotel industry has been rather slow in adapting digital services and up until now it has focused on developing the booking services of a hotel via mobiles or pcs. At the same time Nordic customers are used to sorting out their banking business, shopping and booking and re-booking via the mobile and pc and thus, Scandic found it only natural to develop the online check-out service. The hotel chain expects more than half a million online check-outs within the first 6 months of its launch this month.

 

– It is time for us to offer our guests some added-value and to take advantage of the abundance of possibilities that digital technologies offer nowadays, adds Casper Puggaard, Sales & Marketing Director at Scandic Denmark. We’ll continue to add new digital services to our clients and are currently busy looking into online check-in and booking of conferences, and that’s only the beginning, Puggard ends.
