Scandinavian Airlines diverted to Bologna as flight route goes missing

Published on : Friday, April 12, 2019

A Scandinavian Airlines flight bound for Florence, Italy, was diverted to Bologna, almost 70 miles away, on Thursday.

In a press statement Friday, airline spokesperson Freja Annamatz explained the change in Italian destinations for Flight SK2961 was due to a missing flight route. But by the time the mistake was discovered, Scandinavian was left with two choices: either take the passengers somewhere close or don’t take them all.

“Safety is always our first priority. During preparations by the gate it was discovered that the flight route information was missing,” she said. “The decision to fly to a close-by destination, Bologna, was made instead of canceling the flight. This (decision was made) in order to get the passengers to their destination as soon as possible.”

The passengers were driven to Florence by bus after landing in Bologna.
