The chefs at the Hastings Hotels Group have created an innovative and exciting menu as part of the Eel-Eat initiative which takes place at the end of this month. The programme, which runs from June 25 to July 2 and kicks off the Year of Food and Drink’s Seas, Rivers and Loughs month, has been created by the Lough Neagh Partnership and the Lough Neagh Fishermen’s Co-operative. Sponsored by Tourism NI’s Year of Food and Drink Tourism Events Scheme, ‘Eat-Eel Week’ aims to encourage both locals and visitors to eat Lough Neagh Eels.
With special menus designed to suit all tastes and budgets, and specially created food events in restaurants throughout Northern Ireland, Eel-Eat will allows diners to try something new whilst also supporting the local fishing industry. The restaurants at each of Hastings’ four and five star hotels will also include pollan on their special Lough Neagh menus which will run for the entire month of July. Foodies can choose from smoked Lough Neagh Eel with pickled rainbow carrots and beetroots, Armagh apples, local radish, Comber early potatoes and cress or grilled Lough Neagh pollan with local sautéed potato, Edamame beans, tomato, capers, lemon and parsley butter.
Howard Hastings of Hastings Hotels explained why Eel-Eat Week – and the rest of Seas, Rivers and Loughs month – a is the perfect time to come along to try eels on their menus.
“Across our restaurants at Hastings Hotels we have designed two bespoke dishes using produce from our local loughs which we are sure our diners will love. The dishes are ideal for those who already have a love of fish and eels or those who are trying them for the very first time.
“Our great value seasonal food offers are a fantastic way of trying new and delicious dishes made from the finest local ingredients, at great prices.
“This year is a celebration of everything delicious about Northern Ireland and Hastings Hotels are well-known for being passionate about food and embracing the use of carefully selected local and seasonal quality foods to enable our chefs to create delicious dishes,” added Howard.
Hastings are also offering the dishes as a special deal at a cost of just £10 each, including tea or coffee. The offers will be available from 25th June until the end of July in the Culloden Estate & Spa, Stormont Hotel, Everglades Hotel, Europa Hotel, Ballygally Castle and the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa.
