Mr. M. H. Malik, Secretary Tourism Department, called for making intensive hard work to counterbalance negative observation about Jammu & Kashmir to bolster tourism adding that the sector holds a crucial place in promotion of people-to-people contact.
Late this Wednesday, Mr. M. H. Malik in his maiden meeting with travel agents and hoteliers took place at SKICC, as confirmed by the Secretary. He added that the department is one of the main contributors to the State’s economy and provides employment to huge number of people. He also said the Tourism Department would keep no stone unturned to endorse the tourism industry so that more people can be hired and to provide a flip to the economy.
Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A. Shah, Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor, besides heads of the Travel and Hotel Associations attended the meeting.
The Secretary Tourism at the time of the meeting also highlighted the significance of supporting farm tourism.
He explained that 2017 has already been declared by Ms Mehbooba Mufti, the Chief Minister as Apple Year and the Department would encourage and endorse the apple orchards of the Valley as tourism products.
To quote Malik, ‘we will have special apple orchards enroute famous tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam so that tourists can visit these orchards.’
