The government of the city of Seoul in South Korea has announced on Sunday that it is going to pump about $8.6 million this year with a goal to strengthen its meetings, incentive, convention and exhibition (MICE) industry in 2017. In its five-point plan, it has said that it would sponsor the ‘See you in Seoul Special’ event in order to make this region an attractive MICE destination.
Building up this segment would really help this capital city by boosting the inbound international visitors.
A city official has mentioned that the most crucial participants of meetings and conventions sector is quite well off and they end up spending an average 1.8 times more as compared to regular tourists. He added that developing this sector would be instrumental in creating more employment opportunities.
Furthermore, it would also fuel the growth of the value-added service sector.
Seoul plans to organize careful screening of conventions and exhibitions that might prove to be beneficial for setting up promotion packages and establish cooperation between the private and public sector that would go a long way in upgrading the overall competitiveness of the city in this particular business area.
The city has deiced to encourage travellers to participate in its events, festivals and traditional markets.
A municipal government insider said that the city plans to assist about 11 programs in 2017 with a few projects.
