Alain St. Ange, Seychelles Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine has resigned. He is a potential strong candidate for the position of UNWTO Secretary-General, as the term of Dr. Taleb Rifai as the current Secretary-General comes to an end in September 2017. He joined the Seychelles government in 2009 as Director of Marketing at the Seychelles Tourism Board and then went on to bag prestigious positions in the country’s Cabinet of Ministers.
In his resignation letter to President Danny Faure, President of the Republic of Seychelles, St. Ange wrote, “As part of the Government I have been able to serve my Country and the People of Seychelles in a way that made a positive difference to the lives of so many as I also did my part for the economy of our Country. During the time when I was part of the Government, I know that I worked tirelessly for our country’s tourism industry and the results today speak for themselves.
The Ministry initiated a lot and, with the support of the private sector, we delivered for Seychelles.” He also expressed his intention of applying for the post of Secretary-General of the UNWTO to President Faure. St. Ange has been instrumental in shaping the tourism industry of Seychelles and its continuous growth. 2016 saw arrival of extra flights with increased number of tourists. 2017 brings new promise for Seychelles tourism.
