The committee working on activities to be organised for this year’s Tourism Day has made this call during their first meeting this week.
A dedicated place to honour past players of the Seychelles’ tourism industry will be inaugurated during this year’s tourism week in September.
The committee is seeking for names and photos of these individuals, logos or names of the hotels and other places in the tourism sector where they worked or owned.
Chairing the meeting, the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange said:- “It is important to recognise these people who have dedicated their lives in making our tourism industry what it is today, the industry that has become the pillar of our country’s economy” Minister St.Ange said.
The Minister added that the ministry has already ventured into honouring personalities who have helped to push our culture forward such as artists, musicians and writers.
The call to honour past players of the tourism industry people came from members of the tourism trade, who believe that there is a need to not just express words of thanks to these individuals, but to also have a place where they will be honoured and remembered.
Other points discussed included several key activities which will be organised for the 2015 World Tourism Day which will be celebrated on September 27.
This day is celebrated annually under a different theme to bring more awareness on the vitality of tourism and its benefits.
