Tourisme Montréal is a tourism mission program headed by Tourism Minister Julie Boulet along with Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration. Thye have jointly announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding recently. For over 30 years, two countries enjoyed a pleasant relation and this has become stronger with time exchanging various missions between.
Increasing tourist numbers, creating a strong business travel market to attract popular international events and conferences and promoting urban tourism are the main strategies Tourisme Montréal and Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration will be discussing over. Also, discussions on topics like performance indicators, statistics, welcome strategies, and technology tools etc. will take place.
To quote, Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, ‘’ Adding direct air links to China opens up tremendous opportunities for Montréal. In addition to bringing in more tourists from this strategic market, this memorandum of understanding will allow Tourisme Montréal to learn more about how we can improve Montréal’s appeal with enhanced tourist attractions.’’
It is also being considered that Chinese tourists will increase considerably in numbers in the coming years. However, major credit goes to a newly launched direct flight between Montréal and Shanghai.
