Wintasar Shanghai, an integrated sports-entertainment-tourism resort will be the latest addition to the cluster of theme parks in Shanghai.
It marks the growing popularity of ice and snow tourism among Chinese and the multi-billion yuan project will be jointly invested and developed by the Shanghai Lujiazui Development (Group) Company Limited, Shanghai Harbour City Development (Group) Co., Ltd. and Wintastar Holdings, a subsidiary of KOP Limited (Singapore).
An award-winning Italian architect will be designing the project which will be located in Shanghai’s Pudong district, spread across an area of 227,000 square meters. There will be a 90,000-square-meter indoor ski & snow theme park with more than 25 snow programs.
The resort will be attracting more than 3.2 million visitors annually mainly from the China’s Yangtze River Delta and will tentatively open by 2022.
This will be the first project of ,Majid Al Futtaim the UAE-based conglomerate, as the operator of the indoor ski park.
Mohammad El Etri, director of Global Snow Operations and Projects of Majid Al Futtaim Ventures said that they had high expectations of China’s winter sports and tourism market as major Chinese population and visit the UAE and the Ski Dubai.
The China Tourism Academy stated that the China’s snow tourism market will have around 340 million visitors. Within a span of two years the revenue is expected to be around 670 billion yuan.
The Chinese consumers prefer travelling and leisure due to the upcoming Winter Olympics 2022 and there will be a boom in China’s snow tourism industry, according to Ong Chih Ching, executive chairman and executive director of KOP Limited.
