Discover Los AngelesDetroit-based gallery Library Street Collective is transforming an industrial space in Downtown Los Angeles into the site of Shepard Fairey’s largest-ever solo exhibition in the city. DAMAGED will be on view to the public from Nov. 11 – Dec. 17, 2017.

DAMAGED represents the artist’s first large-scale show in his hometown for nearly 10 years and will feature approximately 200 works. The name DAMAGED is inspired by Black Flag’s 1981 album and offers Fairey’s take on social issues that are currently in a state of crisis. The artist’s latest body of work serves as a reflection on the damaged state of politics, media, human rights, the global approach to the environment, and more.

The works on view range from never-before-seen paintings, large-scale sculptures, interactive installations, etchings, retired stencils, editions on wood and metal, and a display of various do-it-yourself tools of empowerment, including a printed newspaper titled “The Damaged Times.”

Anthony Curis, co-founder of Library Street Collective, comments, “Shepard Fairey is a pivotal figure within social, political and environmental activism in our country. This new body of work speaks to the undeniable challenges and uncertainties that society is facing today. We look forward to presenting Shepard’s most ambitious exhibition to date in his hometown of Los Angeles.”

Discussing his show, Fairey says, “From a creative standpoint, the scale and variety of the works and the depth of the layering in the pieces is more labor intensive than any work I’ve ever made. It’s also work that I’ve been compelled to make in the climate of Trump, and what that means for the United States and the world.”

DAMAGED will be on view at 1650 Naud St. near Los Angeles State Historic Park in Downtown L.A. The public opening will take place from 8-11pm on Saturday, Nov. 11 and RSVP is mandatory for entry.
