Miguel Angel Pech who is the Quintana Roo State Attorney General said that a Mexican, Italian and also a Canadian were among the people who were dead.
On the other hand, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico said that the authorities have confirmed that an American is also among the dead. The nationality of the other victims are yet to be confirmed.
According to Pech, a second Colombian and a Canadian had been killed in the firing. He went on to add that one of the people had died in the stampeded that followed the attack. The gunman escaped.
Pech also said that the authorities are not investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.
The Canadian government has said that one of the citizens have died. It also said that it was investigating the reports of the death of a second victim. Pech said that the armed men had entered the Blue Parrot nightclub around 3 a.m. on Monday during the closing events of the festival.
Pech also stated that an effort to stop the armed man triggered a gunfight that drew in the security staff members.
The shooting spells have been quite a harsh blow to the tourism industry of Mexico. Mexico has been one of the most crucial tourism hubs of the country.
Generally, tourists are protected from the drug violence that had offered quite a major blow to Mexico over the last 10 years. It had claimed 1,00,000 people since the year 2007.
Pech said that seven of the 15 injured people were still in the hospital.
One of them were in a grave condition, according to the state government in an official statement. Four people had been arrested since they were suspected to be involved in the shooting.
Pech also added that two BPM workers were among the dead.
The festival authorities said that three of their security team members were killed.
