Mr Baird welcomed the first ANA Tokyo Haneda- Sydney service after the plane arrived at Sydney Airport today.“I’m pleased to welcome the arrival of ANA’s first daily direct service between Tokyo and Sydney, which will encourage more people to explore NSW and Japan, and increase trade and business opportunities for companies in both countries,” said NSW Premier Mike Baird.
“My first overseas mission after being re-elected in March 2015 was to Tokyo, Japan where I met with government and business leaders, including ANA President and CEO Mr Osamu Shinobe.
“My visit focused on reviving the NSW-Tokyo Sister State relationship and the resumption of ANA’s Tokyo- Sydney return service will support the further development of cultural, business and bilateral ties between NSW and Japan.
NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said more than 134,000 visitors from Japan arrived in NSW in the year ending September 2015 and spent more than $278 million.“Japan is a priority market for the NSW Government and Sydney and regional NSW offer outstanding destinations, attractions and major events,” Mr Ayres said.
“This service will make it easier for visitors to access Sydney and Tokyo, as well as regional parts of NSW and Japan through ANA’s extensive domestic network.“With upcoming major events such as the Australian Open of Surfing, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour and Vivid Sydney – the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, we look forward to showcasing our State to even more Japanese visitors.”
