The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) of Singapore has launched their first Diwali-themed train on 15th October to celebrate the auspicious Indian festival of light. In order to keep the festive spirit high, the MRT has decorated the train with intricate and colourful features like ‘rangoli (artwork)’, ‘diya (lamp)’, lotus, peacock and fireworks.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has recently issued a formal statement that says, “It is an effort to celebrate the Festival of Lights in a whole new illuminating way this year. We have launched our first Deepavali themed train and now people can experience part of the stunning decorations at Little India right inside the MRT.”
The special train has been launched by Singapore’s Minister for Transport, Khaw Boon Wan. Travellers will be able to hitch a ride on the Diwali-themed train till the middle of November on the North East Line (NEL).
Metro rail stations of the Little India Station on both the Downtown Line and the North East Line have also got the special makeover by LTA for the festival.
Travellers can also experience an atmosphere of festivity in the entire Little India area of Singapore. The ethnic district Little India is full of shops and establishments owned by people from Indian origin. Despite of the Diwali decorations, the government of Singapore has implemented a strict ban on the fire crackers, which cause sound and air pollution.
LTA has launched the train in collaboration with Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA). Travellers will be able to ride this fun-filled train to Race Course Road from the Little India railway station.
