On 16th July, Saturday, it warned its citizens to steer clear of travelling in Turkey at least for the time being on account of the recent terrorist attacks in the region that has rendered it potentially unsafe for travellers. It said that the government of Singapore is concerned about the turn of events in Turkey and keeping itself updated with all the news associated to the place. Tourists should abstain from traveling to this part of the world till the situation becomes peaceful.
MFA also advised Singaporeans who are currently residing in Turkey to stay indoors and keep abreast with the latest news and developments in Singapore. They have also been asked to inform their friends and family that they are safe.
If Singaporeans who are traveling or staying in Turkey require assistance of any kind, they have been encouraged to contact the Singapore Embassy through their official website.
Singapore Airlines has recently declared that SQ392, one of its flights that were scheduled to travel to Istanbul had returned to Singapore on account of the tensed situation in the region of Turkey. On Saturday morning, the Boeing 777-200 flew down to Singapore at around 10.20 a.m. It was carrying 14 crew members and 167 passengers. The airways asked passengers to go through their official website in order to receive the latest news about their flights.
Singapore Airlines has also promised to update passengers through its website.
