Javier Suarez has joined Six Senses Douro Valley as spa and wellness director, a role that he held previously at Six Senses Yao Noi in Thailand. Javier brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, given his passionate dedication to health and wellness over the past 20 years.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University Of California San Francisco School Of Medicine, where he also minored in Holistic Health, Javier started his career in the industry working at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco as a physiotherapist. Returning to his native Spain, he spent more than 10 years in the hotel industry with Marriott’s Club Son Antem in Mallorca and Hilton Sa Torre Mallorca Resort before his recent tenure in Thailand.
Javier also holds a Masters degree in Geriatric Physiotherapy from the Ramon Llull University in Barcelona and is a certified organic nutritionist.
To join the Six Senses Douro Valley pre-opening team, he recently drove across the Iberian Peninsula to take over the impressive 23,000 square feet (2,200 square meters) spa, which comprises 10 treatment rooms, outdoor and indoor heated pool, and a gym. It presents Six Senses specialty treatments, multi-day programs, and a menu of inspired therapies. With one of his interests being organic gardening, he will be in his element with the resort’s own garden which also provides key ingredients for the spa.
Some of Javier’s other interests include tennis, movies, music and cooking. As a lover of good red wine, he will fit right in amongst the centuries old vineyards of the Douro Valley.
