Skyscanner rekindles IPL mania in cricket fans

skyscannerWith IPL under way, the country is back in the frenzy mode of the game. To celebrate the spirit and passion for the game, global search engine Skyscanner crunches its data and ‘fields’ travel searches by game enthusiasts across the country to host venues.


Owing to inter-city travelling during the IPL season, Skyscanner indicated that Delhi witnessed the maximum searches from Bangalore with a whopping 42.09% followed by Mumbai (19.33%) and Kolkata (13.29%). Delhi and Mumbai are the most preferred host cities among cricket fans to catch their favorite teams in action. The data also highlighted that with just 3 matches scheduled for Mohali, the city has received considerable interest from Mumbai cricket fans with 12.09% searches whereas the city of joy, Kolkata has received consistent interest from IPL enthusiasts across Mumbai (14.04%), Delhi (14.04%) and Hyderabad (14.40%).  However, with only 2 matches scheduled to take place at Rajkot, the city still receives maximum travel searches from Mumbai which can be accounted to proximity.

Reshmi Roy, Skyscanner’s Growth Manager, India said “The number of searches reported for host cities of IPL matches strongly indicate that cricket in India has gone beyond being the most watched sports on television and now fans are increasingly willing to travel to other cities to encourage the team they support.”
