The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released a provisional data that Slovenian tourism recorded an 8% increase in tourist arrivals from January, up to and including July, and a 6% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period in 2015.
Last year Slovenian tourism achieved exceptional results when, for the first time since gaining independence, the country recorded more than 10 million tourist overnight stays and €2.2 billion in tourism-related revenue. The first seven months of 2016 witnessed this marvellous growth in tourism figures. In the period from January, up to and including July, a total of 8% more tourist arrivals and 6% more overnight stays have been recorded compared to the same period last year. International tourist numbers also saw a hike by 10%, and the number of their overnight stays increased by 8%. Domestic tourism generated 4% more arrivals in the first seven months of this year and 1% more overnight stays.
The performance of Slovenian tourism proves the crux point that the travel industry is an increasingly important industry in generating the revenue of any country. Destination marketing is also an essential part of increasing the tourism influx. In Slovenia, tourism contributes 13% to the gross domestic product, it accounts for 8% of total exports and 38% of the import of services, and it also accounts for 13% of all employed people in Slovenia. The country focuses on sustainable tourism culture and expects a healthy tourist season ahead.
