The tourism industry of Slovenia has been boosted by the fact that it is the home country of the new First Lady of the US, Melania Trump. This was said by the preliminary figures of the national statistics office.
The number of American tourists staying overnight in Slovenia jumped to 15.4% in December and 10.2% in 2016. The overall number of foreign tourists staying in Slovenia was up by 10.3% in the whole of 2016 with the maximum of visitors coming in from countries like Italy, Austria, Croatia, Germany and Serbia.
The government of Slovenia expects that tourism would help towards boosting the country’s economy, which is seen expanding 2.9% this year compared to 2.3% in 2016.
