Slovenia scored 4.18 out of seven on an average based on assessments in 14 elements of competitiveness comprising 100 indicators in the 2017 survey. In the 2015 survey, Slovenia occupied 39th position among 141 countries in the world. Since 2011, there’s been a constant drop in the rankings when it stood at 33rd. Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek expressed his utter dissatisfaction regarding the latest ranking.
To quote the minister, ‘Considering the many activities implemented by the ministry and the Slovenian Tourism Board, we had expected more, to be honest.’ He said that WEF analysis was always considered as ‘important indicator of our realistic position and competitiveness and as a signpost of where changes are needed.’
Slovenia ranked highest in environmental sustainability and occupied 10th spot and security (17th) in terms of individual parameters of competitiveness. In terms of ground and port infrastructure, it occupied 20th spot and tourism infrastructure 25th. However, in travel and tourism, it ranked 47th position.
Slovenia scored quite poor in air transport infrastructure by occupying 76th position, as per previous surveys. In cultural resources and business travel, it ranked 92nd and in business environment it got 80th rank. The Economy Ministry made the latter responsible mainly on the impact of tax on labor and investment.
