Another plane goes missing but this time it is in Nepal where a small Tara Air plane carrying 21 people over the mountainous terrain of Nepal could not be traced minutes after it took off its flight.
The plane was scheduled to land in the town of Jomsom after taking off in the morning from the city of Pokhara but the Twin Otter plane went missing. The total flight time was for 19 minutes but after eight minutes of take off the flight lost contact with base.
The weather was clear when the plane took off and the plane was newly imported from Canada only last September.
The plane was carrying eighteen passengers and three crew members. Two foreigners were also among the passengers, a Chinese and a Kuwaiti.
Rescue operations are underway with the army sending two private helicopters. Pokhra in Nepal is a popular tourist destination and is also a popular trekking point for the Himalayas. Nepal is still coping with loses it had faced in tourism after the earthquakes and is trying its best to make up for its lost tourism in the last year. The country has started attracting its tourists and one can hope that this incident does not dampen its prospects.
